The BlackBerry JamHack 2012 is in town. The 40-hour, Asia-Pacific-wide hackathon will be running in 10 cities over two weekends, or in other words five cities simultaneously each weekend.
According to Research In Motion (RIM), the biggest differences between this hackathon and others are the prizes, opportunities and technical resources being put into supporting the event. These include hardware devices, onsite technical assistance from RIM experts, as well as several mini technical sessions to help aspiring developers put together an app to run on the BlackBerry 10 platform.
Moreover, winners of the hackathon will also get a chance to win an all-expense-paid trip to compete with the other winners from the various cities. Each member of the winning team will also get a BlackBerry 10 DevAlpha device, a BlackBerry 7 smartphone, a BlackBerry Playbook and dedicated technical and business consultancy from RIM.
The hackathon kicks off on Oct. 12 at 7.30 p.m. and it will be taking place at SmartSpace at 261 Waterloo Street, Waterloo Centre at #02-24 and #03-32. It will run for 40 hours through the weekend until noon of Sunday, Oct. 14.
For what it’s worth, it’s interesting to note that RIM appears to be pouring in substantially more resources and effort into enticing developers onto the BlackBerry 10 platform. And despite its position as a dark horse now, BlackBerry 10 devices entering the market in January 2013 will essentially run on the newest mobile platform on the market.
On the other hand, iOS will find itself as the oldest surviving platform, which is an exact reversal of what happened when Apple’s mobile operating system first came into the market. It will be interesting to see how things turn out in the next 12 months.
